Leadership And Management

Dynamics of Managerial Leadership™
There has probably been more written about the topic of leadership, than any other subject in business or management. And, a more recent paradigm is to differentiate Leading from Managing. Sometimes we find people who are great managers, but not so good at leading, and vice-versa, people who are great leaders, but not so good at managing. This gives rise to the often asked question 'are leaders more born or developed".

Research shows that it can be both, but if the basic innate traits do not exist, then there is not enough raw materials to develop. Further studies show there is a strong, correlation between certain personality, traits and effective leadership.

That's personality - which is more 'inborn' – and to a great extent, style comes from this. However, culture is another major influence on style. There are some distinct differences between Asian and Western leadership styles.

There are some of the core issues that are addressed in this workshop.

Dynamics of Managing & Leading Change™
Change is a normal phenomenon. Nothing remains more constant – or as the old quotation goes, "There is nothing so permanent as change" (Heraclitus: 540-475 B.C). If a living organism is growing, developing and maturing, we say this is positive change. All organisms go through a natural process from birth, growth and maturation, decay and eventual death. That is the nature of the human cell, or body, but need not be the nature of a social organization. Spirit can live on and energize a social entity. Many organizations may come and go. Some become bankrupt, some are acquired or merged, and others live on for decades and go from strength to strength. It is ability to adapt to a changing environment that ensures future success.

Change is also a perception, we may see it as positive or negative, as too fast, slow or about right. We perceive it as great, small, simple, complex or in between. It is subjective. As we say "One man's meat is another man's poison". One thing is certain however. Its here to stay and won't go away.

This workshop focuses on how we can 'manage and lead change' more effectively.

Dynamics of Organizing™
Organizing is more to do with the design of organizational structures and systems, unlike efficiency, which is a combination of both a personality orientation and the establishment of systems. While there maybe some elements of personality involved, organizing is a core managerial competency as well as a management function. It includes the analysis of tasks, jobs and responsibility, as well as of roles and relationships and how to delegate authority.

Organizing requires both knowledge and skill competencies, in planning and goal setting, before roles and relationships are structured and the work to be done is combined into tasks and jobs. It requires a personality orientation of detail, orderliness and a logical, sequential and linear way of thinking.

Dynamics of Coaching™
Experienced managers and professionals have knowledge and skills that need to be passed on. They can be shared among fellow managers or peers and with direct reports or new managers.

Coaching is a catalyst for development and change

•  With the current emphasis on helping individual employees to realize their full potential, the techniques of coaching are fast becoming essential tools for managers and team leaders.
•  By investing small amounts of time to provide, coaching, encouragement, and constructive feedback. Coaches can substantially boost both their colleagues' and their own performance.
•  Coaching essentially relates to helping others develop skills that the coach has, that the others do not have, or do not yet have developed well enough.
•  This workshop will help build the skills that managers and team leaders need to improve to improve the performance of their staff or team members.

Dynamics of Strategic Management™
The word strategy comes from the Greek word 'strategos' which means 'general', and later became the name for the 'leader' of an army or a strategist.

A strategy is a general program of actions directed toward the attainment of goals or objectives, with commitment to resource utilization and how they will be applied. It is a type of 'Future' oriented and 'Big Picture' thinking, which emerges as a Strategic Plan.

However, not all people naturally think this way. Although, if senior managers and professional are selected and promoted correctly, these traits will have been identified as ones' they possess. Next come the techniques and skills and then motivation to use them. But what happens if this personality trait is weak? Then, the skills may even be more important.
